It didn't take too long to NCAA recruiters to notice what Jeff Smith has been up to in the Powell River Kings crease this season.
The rookie BCHL netminder has accepted an offer from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell to play for the River Hawks for the 2015-16 season. Currently, Smith leads BCHL goalies in goals-against average at 1.96 and save percentage at .936. He's fashioned an 11-3-1 mark in 15 games played for the campaign.
Smith is the first BCHLer to commit to UMass-Lowell this season. Former BCHL players on the River Hawks roster are Michael Colantone and Evan Campbell.
The River Hawks compete in the NCAA Div. I Hockey East conference against the likes of Boston College, Vermont, New Hampshire and Notre Dame.
