Kitchener teddy bear toss

Press Release

The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club is pleased to introduce Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities as the official charitable partner of the Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is a national charitable program dedicated to providing financially disadvantaged kids with the opportunity to experience the benefits of organized sport and recreation. This new partnership gives Rangers fans new opportunities to join in the Teddy Bear Toss fun, including purchasing bears at the game and in-store and donating stuffed animals before the game at Canadian Tire stores around the region.

Between November 26 and December 10, fans will have the opportunity to purchase teddy bears at Canadian Tire stores in Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo in exchange for a $5 donation to Jumpstart charities. Fans can also purchase a bear at the game on December 10 or bring their own new or gently used bear to the game. After the game, all bears thrown on the ice will be donated to local charitable organizations, just in time for the holidays.

"The team at Jumpstart is thrilled to be partnering with The Rangers on their annual Teddy Bear Toss, as this enables us to help even more kids in the Kitchener-Waterloo region to participate in organized sports and recreational activities,” says Harry Bell, Southern Ontario Regional Manager, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “Since 2005, Jumpstart has helped over 9,400 kids in the region experience the benefits of physical activity by helping families to cover the costs of equipment, registration and transportation. The role that The Kitchener Rangers play in inspiring young athletes makes this partnership a natural fit.”

The 19th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game is December 10, 2013 at 7:30 pm when the Rangers host the London Knights. Tickets are available by phone at 519-578-1570 or 1-800-265-8977, via the internet at www.centre-square.com or in person at the Centre In the Square Box Office or the Kitchener Auditorium Box Office.

Fans that are unable to attend the game, but who still wish to donate a new or gently used stuffed animal are encouraged to drop off bears at their local Canadian Tire store before December 10, 2013. Donations are being accepted at all seven locations in Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo and bears brought into stores will be thrown on the ice following the Rangers’ first goal.

Over the past 18 years, Rangers fans have generously donated an incredible 91,627 bears for local charitable groups. Groups interested in the teddy bears are encouraged to fill out and return the Teddy Bear Recipient Form found at www.kitchenerrangers.com/page/19th-annual-teddy-bear-toss .
