Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Top OHL
Performers of the Month for November, 2013, including Dane Fox of the
Erie Otters, defenceman Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting, rookie
Travis Konecny of the Ottawa 67’s, and goaltender Devin Williams of the
Erie Otters.
OHL Player of the Month – Dane Fox (Erie Otters):
Dane Fox of the Erie Otters is the OHL’s Player of the Month after
leading the league in scoring with 29 points in 13 games including a
league-high 15 goals also producing 14 assists and a plus-minus rating
of plus-11. He becomes the second straight member of the Otters to
claim the monthly award following Connor McDavid after helping his club
earn 11 victories in 13 games in November. Fox recorded a point in 12
of 13 games played including nine multi-point games and was recognized
as one of the game’s three stars eight different times. He received
first star honours in three games highlighted by his first career
five-point performance on November 19 with two goals and three assists
in a 9-6 win over the Kitchener Rangers.
Fox, a 20-year-old from Thamesville, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL
season and second full campaign with the Otters. The current OHL Player
of the Week ranks second in league scoring behind teammate Connor Brown
with 54 points in 28 games including a career-high 31 goals along with
23 assists. His 54 points equals his career-high set in 2011-12 in 62
games split between the Otters and the London Knights where he began his
career.
OHL Defenceman of the Month – Anthony DeAngelo (Sarnia Sting):
Anthony DeAngelo of the Sarnia Sting is the OHL’s Defenceman of the
Month for November after leading all blueliners in scoring with 16
points in 12 games including three goals and 12 assists. He recorded a
point in 10 of his 12 games played including five multi-point games
highlighted by a three-assist performance November 15 as second star of a
5-3 win over the Saginaw Spirit. One game later he earned first star
honours November 16 scoring a shorthanded game-winner in a 4-2 win over
the Plymouth Whalers.
DeAngelo, an 18-year-old from Sewell, New Jersey, is playing in his
third OHL season with the Sting. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft,
DeAngelo currently leads all OHL defencemen in scoring with 39 points in
27 games and has been recently named to the U.S. Preliminary Roster for
the National Junior Team.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Travis Konecny (Ottawa 67’s):
For the second straight month Travis Konecny of the Ottawa 67’s is
named the OHL’s top rookie. He led all rookies in scoring in November
with 16 points in 11 games producing four goals and 12 assists. Konecny
picked up a point in eight of his 11 games played including five
multi-point games. On three different occasions last month he recorded
three points opening the month with a three-assist performance November 2
in an 8-4 win over the Peterborough Petes, and later scored once with
two assists as first star despite a 4-3 shootout loss to the Kitchener
Rangers on November 10. He also picked up three assists on November 24
and was named second star of a 5-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs.
Konecny, a 16-year-old graduate of the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs earned
ALLIANCE Player of the Year honours before becoming the first 67’s
player to be selected first overall since Alyn McCauley in 1993. He
ranks first in scoring among rookies with 29 points in 27 games
including 10 goals and 19 assists. Konecny was recently named to the
Team Ontario roster for the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month – Devin Williams (Erie Otters):
Devin Williams is the Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month after
posting a perfect 9-0-0-0 record including two shutout victories while
earning a goals-against-average of 1.95 and save percentage of .925. He
becomes the second straight Otters goaltender to win the monthly award
following teammate Oscar Dansk. Williams made 196 saves last month and
helped his club climb to first place in the OHL standings where they
currently hold a 23-4-1-0 record. Williams began the month with a
28-save performance earning first star honours with his second shutout
of the season November 2 in a 6-0 win over the Niagara IceDogs. He also
claimed first star honours on November 15 with 18 saves as part of a
3-0 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
Williams, an 18-year-old from Saginaw, Michigan, is playing in his
third OHL season with the Otters. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft,
Williams is tied for the OHL-lead with three shutouts and has an overall
record of 11-1-0-0. He ranks fifth in the league with a
goals-against-average of 2.56 and carries a .905 save percentage in 12
games.
