Oshawa teddy bear toss challenge

Press Release

On December 8, 2013, at the Generals game versus the Belleville Bulls, Durham Children’s Aid Foundation is hoping to receive a record breaking 6,000 stuffed teddy bears.

These teddy bears will be tossed on the ice at the sound of the first Oshawa Generals goal at the General Motors Centre. This heart-warming festive tradition is being generously sponsored by Oshawa’s very own Meineke Car Care Centre and supported by our local little league hockey team players, who will collect the bears on the ice.
Last year, the annual event saw 5470 teddy bears and stuffed animals go to the Durham Region Children’s Aid Foundation. The first Generals goal last year came at 16:12 of the first period, when Chris Carlisle scored unassisted. The resulting shower of toys covered the ice with 5470 stuffed animals, far surpassing the record. The previous record was established in 2009 when the Teddy Bear Toss collected 4402 bears.

Durham Children's Aid Foundation is also challenging the Durham community to help raise one dollar for each bear generously donated by Oshawa Generals’ fans at the game. These funds will go towards their Holiday Hope Program, which provides festive hampers to children, youth and families in need, served by Durham Children’s Aid Society.
This year, the Durham Children's Aid Foundation expects to distribute 700 hampers but they need your help to make sure they can support all the children, youth and families on their list.

To donate, please visit their website at www.durhamcaf.ca and click on ‘Canada Helps’ or simply mail a cheque to the Teddy Bear Toss Challenge, Durham Children’s Aid Foundation at 1320 Airport Blvd., Oshawa, ON L1H 7K4.  Volunteers will also be on hand at the game to collect donations.

Thank you on behalf of all Holiday Hope volunteers, staff and supporters.
