Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward
Dane Fox of the Erie Otters is the OHL Player of the Week for the week
ending December 1 after scoring six goals and two assists for eight
points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Fox recorded three multi-point performances helping the Otters win
all three games last week moving them into sole possession of first
place in the OHL standings with a 23-4-1-0 record. On Thursday night
the Otters picked up a huge 6-4 win over Midwest Division rivals the
second place Guelph Storm with Fox scoring two goals as second star of
the 6-4 victory. The Otters finished the week with back-to-back wins
over the Mississauga Steelheads beginning Friday night on the road where
Fox recorded his first hat-trick of the season and second of his career
which included his league-best 30th goal of the season as
first star of the 6-0 win. Fox earned third star honours at home on
Saturday with a goal and two assists as third star of the 7-1 win over
Fox, a 20-year-old from Thamesville, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL
season and second full campaign with the Otters. He currently ranks
second in OHL scoring behind teammate Connor Brown with 54 points in 28
games including a career-high 31 goals along with 23 assists. His 54
points equals his career-high set in 2011-12 in 62 games split between
the Otters and the London Knights where he began his career.
Fellow Otter and Washington Capitals prospect Andre Burakovsky also
produced eight points in three games scoring three goals and five
assists, while 2014 NHL Draft prospect Spencer Watson of the Kingston
Frontenacs was also considered for the award after scoring four goals
and two assists for six points in three games. In goal, the Fronts’
Matt Mahalak won two starts with a shutout victory posting a
goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .982.
