Plante, Cadorette and Marcotte named the TELUS three stars of the week

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 9, 2013 - Jean-François Plante, Philippe Cadorette and Louick Marcotte were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for December 9 to 15, 2013.

With 4 goals and 3 assists in 3 games, the Sherbrooke Phoenix forward, Jean-François Plante is the first star of the week. His + / - was also very good at +5. Thursday in Rimouski, Plante was all fired up against his former team, tallying 3 points. He scored the tying goal, making it 3-3 in the last minute of the game. Sherbrooke collected a valuable point in the standings despite the 4-3 shootout loss. Back at home on Saturday against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, the 20-year old veteran got his 3rd, 3-goal-game of the season and was selected the 1st star of the game which his team won 4-0. His first goal of the game was scored while his team was shorthanded. He was responsible for a quarter of his team’s shots on net, 8 out of the total 32. Sunday, his team prevailed 3-2 in overtime against Rouyn-Noranda. Once again, he played a role at a crucial time in the game, Plante got a pass on the game winner scored by teammate Simon Desbiens. Our star of the week is currently 2nd among goal scorers in the league with 29. He is tied with Daniel Audette on his team for first place in scoring with a total of 36 points.

Philippe Cadorette, the goalkeeper of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, is the second star of the week. In 3 games, he maintained a goals against average of 0.67 while his save percentage stood at 0.974. He recorded two shutouts in a row. The first, against Shawinigan Tuesday, the Drakkar won 2-0, he was named the third star of the game where he stopped all 30 shots. Facing the Halifax Mooseheads Friday, he and his teammates were flawless defensively not allowing any goals on 17 shots, winning 3-0. It was his third shutout of the season. Finally Sunday in Quebec City, in a clash between the two best teams in the Telus East Division, the Drakkar won their third straight game by a  5-2 score. Cadorette recorded his 17th win of the season with 27 saves. With his consistant play over the weekend, the 18 year-old goaltender has taken the lead in the race for the Jacques-Plante trophy, while his goals against average is the best in the QMJHL at 2.47.

The third star of the week is Louick Marcotte, the Val-d’Or Foreurs forward. In 3 games, including 2 on the road, he recorded 8 points including 2 goals and 6 assists. On Wednesday, Val-d'Or received the QMJHL leaders, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, a team they trail in the Telus West Division. Louick Marcotte began his week with two assists in a 6-3 win. He was selected the second star of the evening, while teammate Anthony Mantha stole the show with 4 points. Saturday in a 5-4 loss in overtime to Drummondville, Marcotte was chosen the second star of the game. While his team trailed 4-2 early in the third period, he scored his 20th goal of the season, and then added an assist (his second of the game) at the end of regulation time on a goal by Pierre-Maxime Poudrier, which made it 4-4. Sunday in Victoriaville, another 3 point game (1 goal and 2 assists) came in a spectacular 7-5 win. Marcotte scored at least one point for the 10th straight game, which is the same number of games as his team’s sequence without a regulation loss. With 54 points so far this season, Marcotte ties his career high which he recorded last year with the PEI Rocket. It’s also worth noting that the top 3 leaders in points as of December 16, are all from the Val-d’Or Foreurs: Anthony Mantha (73) Louick Marcotte (54) and defenseman Guillaume Gélinas (53).
