Rosters announced for GOJHL All-Star and Top Prospects games

Press Release

CAMBRIDGE, ON – The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) is pleased to announce the rosters for the 2013-14 All Star and Top Prospects Games on Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Vale Centre in Port Colborne, ON.

The All Star Game starts at 1:30pm as Team Vaive faces Team Ludzik and the Top Prospects Game follows at 5:00pm. In addition to the games this year, the Top Prospects will be run through “Thrive Performance Testing” at 2:00pm before they hit the ice for their game.

The All Star and Top Prospects Games feature the best players from the Golden Horseshoe, Midwestern and Western Conferences and each year these top flight players put on a great show of entertaining hockey. The All Stars are the best 19 and 20 year old players in the GOJHL and the Top Prospects are the best players born in 1995-1997.

All are welcome to attend this once-a-year event, tickets are priced at $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors and students, and children under six are free.

Every year the GOJHL partners with charitable organizations to donate funds from the All Star and Top Prospects Games to worthy causes. This year’s event will be raising money for the Frank Santarossa Scholarship Fund and the Steve Ludzik Parkinson’s Rehabilitation Program.

The Frank Santarossa Scholarship Fund was created in 1988 in the memory of the late Frank Santarossa, a promising young player who played for the Kitchener Dutchmen and the Cambridge Winter Hawks in the mid ‘80s. Santarossa lost his life in a tragic car accident in the winter of 1987. Frank’s father Lino, along with a small group of friends, started the scholarship fund in Frank’s memory and in 26 years the Scholarship Fund has awarded over $80,000. The Scholarship was originally intended for players in the Midwestern Junior B League and later the Midwestern Conference of the GOJHL, however 3 years ago the scholarship was made available to all teams in the GOJHL.

The Steve Ludzik Parkinson’s Rehabilitation Program was funded through a private donation from former NHL player and coach, Steve Ludzik. The Parkinson’s Rehabilitation Program offers interprofessional, time-limited client-centred rehabilitation to adult residents of the Niagara Region living with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Make the trip to Port Colborne on December 29th to check out today and tomorrow’s GOJHL Top Prospects and All Stars and help raise money for two very worthy causes.
