Spruce Kings games vs the Chilliwack Chiefs cancelled this weekend

Press Release

The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) regretfully announce that their home games this weekend have been cancelled and will have to be rescheduled for a later date.

The Spruce Kings were to play a pair of home games against the Chilliwack Chiefs in the Prince George Coliseum on Saturday night December 14th and Sunday afternoon December 15th. Due to a labour dispute between the City of Prince George and its unionized workers that is expected to impact the operations of all arenas in the City, the Spruce Kings, the Chilliwack Chiefs and the BCHL have agreed to reschedule the affected games to a later date.

"We are sorry to announce the cancelation of our games this weekend due to the City of Prince George’s labour dispute," said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. "We have been informed, by the City, that the selected job action of the union representing the City employees will be targeting all community arenas on Saturday December 14th. The arenas will be closed on this date and nobody will have access to the building."

“These games will be rescheduled after the New Year,” added Hawes. “Exact dates that the games will be played are yet to be determined.”

The cancellation also affects the annual Drop the Gloves and Sock it to ‘Em game which will be rescheduled to the earliest possible date in the New Year. Fans that may have clothing items and or non-perishable food items that would like to drop them off at the Spruce Kings office can do so on Friday December 13th.

It is unfortunate that this has happened ... it not only affects the players and fans but a whole host of other people including the less fortunate that have been the recipients of the annual "sock toss."
