Congratulations to former River Rat Matt Salhany ('93) who has accepted an offer to play for the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers next season. Salhany will be the first Rats to play in the WCHA next season.
Salhany, a Warwick, RI native, spent his entire midget career with the
River Rats. Matt was part of the 2009 U16 team won the programs first
State Championship at the midget level and then won two league
championships with the U18 team (2010 and 2011). During his two years
with the U18 team Salhany posted a 20-55-75 line in 49 career games.
Currently, Salhany is playing for the Boston Bandits of the EJHL where
he led the team in points during the regular season with 41 points in 44
games. Matt was reunited with former River Rats Nick Finn (Holy Cross), Alex Bonito and Brian Miller this season.
"It's exciting to see Matt accept this offer. He was with us for his
entire midget career and he deserves this opportunity." said U18 head
coach Jon Hutcheon.
Good luck to Matt next season and beyond!
