Canucks alumnus Kirk Mclean to visit Prince George for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada

Press Release

The Prince George Cougars, CBC and Scotiabank are excited to announce that Vancouver Canucks alumnus Kirk McLean will be visiting Prince George as part of our Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada celebrations being held on January 18th.

"The entire Cougars organization is eagerly anticipating an exciting and fun-filled Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on January 18th" says Prince George Cougars Vice-President Brandi Brodsky. "We have been planning this day for months and know that with Kirk McLean participating in the celebrations, along with the pre-game and on-ice activities and special ticket offers, the entire community of Prince George will thoroughly enjoy and remember this special day for many years to come."

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada events at the CN Centre will start at 12:30pm on the 18th, featuring a variety of pre-game activities on the concourse level of the stadium. Kirk McLean will be signing autographs from 12:45 p.m.-1:15 p.m., and there will be face painting and sign creation stations to help fans get ready to show Canada their true Prince George hockey spirit. The game between the Cougars and the Edmonton Oil Kings starts at 1:30 p.m. with live cut-ins on CBC Television throughout the game.

Scotiabank has sponsored the Dash for Cash first intermission contest of the game. In this activity, a few lucky fans will have one minute to gather up to $2500 in loonies and toonies off the ice, with the remaining cash value plus an additional $1000 to be donated to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The second intermission contest will be the very popular Cougars Chuck- a-Puck, with gift cards from four local restaurants available to be won. CBC will also be doing live interviews with Kirk McLean and a Cougars team player during the game.

The first 4000 fans to enter the arena for the Cougars game will receive a free Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada toque. Prior to the doors opening to the Cougars game, there will be several minor league hockey games on the rinks starting at 8:15 a.m., in addition to face painting and poster making in the Atrium.

The Cougars are also excited to announce a two-for-one ticket offer (based on availability) to help make the day’s celebrations affordable and accessible to as many people as possible.  This offer will also be available to season ticket holders who are welcome to visit Ticketmaster to receive a free ticket for each 2013-14 season ticket they have previously purchased.

The theme of this year’s Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada broadcast is ‘Community’ and highlights the common bond Canadians share through hockey and the local rinks in which it is played as well as the role the game plays in bringing Canadian communities together from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Throughout the day, CBC will look in on hockey-related events taking place in communities across the country, including here at home in Prince George, as well as Barry’s Bay, ON and Sydney, NS.
