CJHL Three Stars of the Month

CALGARY, Alberta – The CJHL 3 Stars for the final month of 2013 are goaltenders Ryland Pashovitz (Humboldt Broncos, SJHL) and Braeden Ostepchuk (Selkirk Steelers, MJHL), along with forward Érik Longtin (Les Inouk du Cégep de Granby Haute Yamaska, QJAAAHL).

1st STAR – RYLAND PASHOVITZ, G, Humboldt Broncos, SJHL (4 W, 2SOL, 1 SO, 0.97 GAA, .968 SV%)

Ryland Pashovitz (Saskatoon SK) has had a dream rookie season and this past month may have been his best yet as he won four starts and suffered a pair of shootout losses, all the while keeping his goals against average under 1 (0.97).  His save percentage ended up being .968 and he also had a shutout. Pashovitz has yet to lose in regulation this season (11-0-3) and leads the league in goals against average (1.18) and SPCT (.961). The first year player is on track to break SJHL season records in both goals against average and save percentage.
2nd STAR – ÉRIK LONGTIN, LW, Les Inouk du Cégep de Granby Haute Yamaska, QJAAAHL (7 GP, 10 G, 12 A, 22 PTS, 3.14 PPG)

Érik Longtin received the title of Top Offensive Player for the month of December in the QJAAAHL. The 19-year-old left winger played a key role in the success of his team, which compiled a record of 6 wins and only one loss during the month. During that stretch, Longtin has scored 10 goals, 12 assists and 22 points in 7 games including 2 powerplay goals, 2 game winners, 2 hat tricks including a four-goal game, 7 multi-point games, and a differential of +9. Overall for the season, Longtin (Farnham, QC) leads his team in scoring, 7th in the league, with a record of 33 goals, 30 assists and 63 points in 28 games.

3rd STAR – BRAEDEN OSTEPCHUK, G, Selkirk Steelers, MJHL (6 W, 0 L, 2 SO, 1.84 GAA, .951 SV%)           

The outstanding play of goaltender Braeden Ostepchuk has allowed the Selkirk Steelers to battle for first place in the very tight Addison Division. For the second straight month, Braeden Ostepchuk of the Selkirk Steelers has been named the MJHL Goaltender of Month. The 20-year-old from Lethbridge, AB posted an unblemished 6-0 record for December, including two shutouts. The outstanding play comes off a perfect 7-0 record for November. Ostepchuk sits atop the MJHL goaltender race, with a 25-5 record, five shutouts and 1.87 GAA.

The CJHL 3 Stars of the Month is one of the league’s national awards created to recognize Junior A hockey's best players and coaches.  In addition to the 3 Stars of the Month, the CJHL also presents annual awards for Most Valuable Player, Top Forward, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Top NHL Prospect.
