During the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks vs. Pittsburgh Vengeance NA3HL
game this past Sunday in Cleveland, the event was much more than a
normal NA3HL regular season game. The Lumberjacks, who ended up
winning 5-1, donated all funds from the game to the Kevin Kenny fund.
Kenny is a Pittsburgh forward who was injured in a game against
Cleveland back in November.
The Lumberjacks are pleased to announce that they made a donation
of $880.00 to the fund. To date, almost $50,000 has been raised. You
can learn more about donating here.
“We thought it was the least we could do and we want to keep Kevin
and his fight in the forefront,” said Cleveland head coach Bob Jacobson.
“The hockey community is unlike any other and the way that people have
rallied behind Kevin and supported his family is remarkable and
inspiring.”
Kenny is expected to be released from Mercy Rehabilitation in the
middle of January. Work is not yet completed at the Kenny home so he
will be going to another location until the house is ready. The next
challenge for the Kenny family is purchasing a van for Kevin's needs.
Right before Christmas, Kenny returned to watch the Vengeance play a
home game against Cleveland. Since then he has also attended a
Pittsburgh Penguins home game.
He said it’s was very overwhelming. “I can’t believe how many
people have written letters and donated. I’m really blown away by it,”
said Kenny.
“It’s nice for him to get out of the hospital for a little while
because he’s been in the room and in the hospital,” added Carolyn Kenny,
Kevin’s mom. “So, it’s nice for him to get back in the regular
environment.”
