Phaneuf, Whitney and Culkin named the TELUS three stars of the week

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday January 6, 2014 - Storm Phaneuf, Brandon Whitney and Ryan Culkin were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for December 30, 2013 to January 5 , 2014.

The first star is the Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender, Storm Phaneuf. In two games, he recorded one win and one overtime loss, maintaining an average of 1.92 and a save percentage of 0.954. Saturday against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, he made 33 saves in a 4-2 win. Sunday, the Cataractes were outshot 52-20 as Phaneuf made 50 saves, allowing his team to go in a shootout and get a point in the standings. They lost 3-2 to the Gatineau Olympiques. Phaneuf was named the first star in both games on the weekend.

Brandon Whitney, the Victoriaville Tigres goaltender, is the second star of the week. In two games, Whitney recorded a win and a loss, maintained an average of 1.51 and save percentage of .958. Saturday against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, he played a perfect game in a 4-0 win as well as his fourth shutout of the season.

The third star is the Quebec Remparts defenseman, Ryan Culkin. Culkin collected 2 goals and added 2 assists in 2 games. Friday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs, he scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season in a 3-2 win. Both of his goals were on the power play. Sunday in a 6-3 win against the Sherbrooke Phoenix, he had two assists and was named third star.
