T-Birds acquire Kozun from Blazers

KENT, January 10, 2014 — Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced the team has acquired goalie Taran Kozun from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for defenseman Austin Douglas, goalie Justin Myles and a fourth round pick in the 2015 Bantam Draft.

“We are happy to add Taran’s experience in goal as we head into the final stretch and the playoffs,” said Farwell. “He is an athletic, competitive goalie with a solid reputation and a great addition to our team. Together with Danny Mumaugh this gives us very solid goaltending going forward.”

Kozun, a 19-year-old, has appeared in 29 games for the Blazers this season and has a 5-19-2-1 record with a 3.95 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. In 51 games with the Blazers over three seasons Kozun has a 17-24-3-3 record with a 3.30 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and two shutouts.

Myles has appeared in 21 games for the T-Birds this season and has an 11-6-0-0 record with a 3.66 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. Myles was the T-Birds fifth round selection, 92nd overall, in the 2010 Bantam Draft.

Douglas has appeared in 13 games this season with the T-Birds and has one assist with eight penalty minutes. Douglas was the T-Birds second round selection, 27th overall, in the 2011 Bantam Draft.
