Thunder Bay's Delpaggio named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Daniel Delpaggio has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period ending Jan. 19.

In three games last week the red-hot rookie amassed two goals and an assist in each contest helping Thunder Bay defeat league-leading Fort Frances twice and also pick-up a point in a shootout setback at third place Minnesota.

Among his efforts saw Delpaggio notch the game-winning goal in each of the two triumphs vs. the Lakers as he scored six times and supplied three helpers in total during the week that was.

The 17-year-old Thunder Bay product currently leads the SIJHL in point-per-game average at 2.12, sits second overall in offensive production (68 points), tied for second in goals (29), second in assists (39), shares the SIJHL lead in power play tallies (10) and is knotted for second in game-winners. On top of that Delpaggio is also riding a 17-game point streak and has etched his name on the score sheet in 26 of his past 27 outings. He also has 17 multi-point nights to his credit this season with the North Stars going 14-1-1-1 in that span.

Also earning consideration for Pizza Hut player of the week was Vincent Currao, (F) English River Miners; Matt O’Dea, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Lyndon Lipinski, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Griffin Strain, (G) Wisconsin Wilderness and Chris Belhumeur, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
