Steelers’ Thomas named RBC Player of Month for January

For the second consecutive month, Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers has been named the RBC Player of the Month. The 20-year-old forward recorded 23 points (5-18) over a 13-game span in January ─ all wins for the Steelers.


Thomas, who hails from Winnipeg, also leads the MJHL points race with 28 goals and 84 points in 48 games.

The runners up are 20 year old forward Tyler Grove of the OCN Blizzard and 19 year old forward Tanner Lomsnes of the Dauphin Kings.

Sher-Wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month

Another Selkirk Steeler has been recognized for an outstanding January ─ Joel Messner. Messner, a 19-year-old from Lorette, was outstanding on the blueline, in addition to contributing offensively with 11 points (3-8) in 13 games.

The runners up are 17 year old Justin Baudry of the Steinbach Pistons and 18 year old Kevin Pochuk of the Virden Oil Capitals.

MGEU Goaltender of the Month

Zach Rakochy of the Steinbach Pistons was outstanding in January. The 20-year-old from Canora, Sk, recorded four wins last month ─ three of those shutout efforts. Overall, he posted a 4-5 record, with a save percentage of .925 and GAA of 2.00.

The runners up are 19 year old Michael Stiliadis of the Dauphin Kings and 20 year old Braeden Ostepchuk of the Selkirk Steelers.

IBAM Rookie of the Month

Despite his youth ─ 16 years old ─ Tyler Jeanson of the Portage Terriers has clearly shown he can play Junior A hockey. The freshman forward scored five goals in 10 games last month.

Jeanson, who hails from Graysville, was a runner-up for this award last month. Overall, he sits second in team scoring with 20 goals and 35 points in 50 games.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Carter Johnson of the Swan Valley Stampeders and 18 year old goaltender Scott Parsons of the Winnipeg Blues.
