Plymouth Still Adding Talent

The Plymouth Whalers announced today that they have signed their sixth round selection in Austin Levi. He's a 6'3 190lbs defenseman. Why does a sixth round selection get this type of attention? He's from Farmington Hills, Michigan. So it was a question if he would report with colleges recruiting him.

This is the third player from the Compuware Under-16 team that made the jump to the OHL. Austin Watson and Jared Knight already have signed to come over the border. Levi had a goal and seven assists in 27 games. At the Select 16's in Rochester, New York a few years weeks ago he had no points in five contests. Compuware plays in the same building as the Whalers do.

He hadn't committed anywhere but I am sure he was on USA Hockey's radar for the National Team Development Program.

The summer might not be done for the Plymouth Whalers. They are still waiting if they can sign Carolina's and their second round pick Zac Dalpe. Unlike most players that were drafted as 16 year olds in the OHL Draft. Dalpe is 18. The Hurricanes and the Whalers are owned by the same owner. They could also make a push to sign another young defenseman in Jon Merrill. He's committed to the NTDP and Michigan in 2010.

The Kitchener Rangers have announced that Paul Fixter a former Hershey Bear coach as an assistant coach and GM.

The Regina Pats of the WHL are looking for a new head coach. Curtis Hunt will join the Ottawa Senators coaching staff.

That's My Take
