Riendeau Player of the Week

Boston Pizza Player of the Week


Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Yannick Riendeau of the Drummondville Voltigeurs is the Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 9. Riendeau scored five goals and two assists for seven points with a plus-minus rating of plus-4 in two Voltigeurs wins this week.

Riendeau began his week Saturday night when the Voltigeurs opened a two game weekend road series against the Lewiston MAINEiacs with a 13-4 win. Riendeau opened the scoring midway through the first period and would also add the eventual game winning goal in the second period and was named the second star of the game. The 13 goals scored tied a Voltigeurs single game record for the most goals scored in a road game. On Sunday in Lewiston, Riendeau would continue his high scoring play in a 7-1 win over the MAINEiacs. Riendeau netted a hat-trick including the game winner, and added two assists for first star of the game honours.

Riendeau, a 20-year-old from Brossard, QC is in his fifth QMJHL season and first with the Voltigeurs. He was a first round pick in the QMJHL Draft taken ninth overall in 2004 by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies where he played for four seasons. This season Riendeau has scored 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 16 games played.

Cody Hodgson of the Brampton Battalion was the OHL nominee after scoring four goals and one assist in an 8-4 win Thursday night over the Plymouth Whalers finishing the week with five goals and four assists for nine points in three games. C.J. Stretch of the Kamloops Blazers had four multi-point games this week finishing with one goal and eight assists for nine points to represent the WHL.

ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the week for the week ending November 9.

Sexsmith was perfect in his single start this week for the Giants when they defeated the Prince George Cougars 5-0. Sexsmith was the third star of the game making 24 saves for the shutout. The shutout victory marked the 22nd of his career setting a new WHL record. Sexsmith accomplished the record in 138 games played. Brian Bridges (Kootenay/Seattle, 2001-06) had 21 shutouts in 213 games played, while Leland Irving (Everett, 2003-08) also had 21 in 195 career games.

Sexsmith, a 19-year-old from Priddis, AB was taken in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. He is in his fourth WHL season with the Giants. He is currently amongst the league leaders in goals-against-average with 1.91 and save percentage at .903 in 11 games played. Sexsmith has also recorded 9 wins including two shutouts so far this season.

Timo Pielmeier has been huge for the Shawinigan Cataractes who are winners of 12 straight games. This week Pielmeier is the QMJHL nominee after winning two road games and posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a .960 save percentage. Jaroslav Janus of the Erie Otters is the OHL nominee after posting a 3-0-0-0 including a shutout win and a weekly goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .957. On Saturday, Janus made 32 saves in a 4-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires.
