New Commitments

Cornell keeps adding talent. This time they added Ben Thomson a power forward according to the Big Red Puckhead blog. He's a 2011 recruit and is a 1993 born. He will be eligible for the OHL Draft.

Ben is playing with the Mississauga Reps AAA Midget team and has a line of 10-6-8-14-25 this season. Ben is considered one of the top forward prospects in Ontario and is regarded as a strong power player who has a mean edge to his game. Ben played with the Toronto Blackknights in last summer's Junior Chowder Cup and in 4 games scored 6 goals and added 2 assists.

The big question will he hold his commitment. I won't rant on this recruit like I did the other day on John Esposito's commitment. Thomson has a brother on Cornell's lacrosse team so there are family connections. I have to give credit to Cornell for going after these recruits. They are trying to get the blue chippers.

I wander if they will land Andy Iles? He's a top goaltender for the 2010 class. I have no inside information but I think Cornell would be in the running. He's from the area but over the summer Big Red Puckhead had a post on the schools that he's interested in.

Brandon Thomas has a nice article in today's Ithaca Journal on Andy Iles. The good news for Cornell fans is that the article confirms that the Big Red are currently among Andy's final five (along with BC, Michigan, Northeastern, and Notre Dame).

You can scratch Michigan off that list with the commitment of Jack Campbell. For Cornell fans, I would be worried about Boston College from an outsider point of view. They just lost Brandon Maxwell to the Windsor Spitfires.

The Western College Hockey Blog lists a few other commitment that were made the last few days. Minnesota-Duluth gets two forwards both play at Shattuck-St. Mary's Brad Elliott Schlossman reports that Matt White of the Des Moines Buccaneers has commited to North Dakota.

That's My Take
