U-18 Defeats Middlebury

Press Release

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The U.S. National Under-18 Team recorded five third-period goals, four of which came on the power play, as it defeated Middlebury College, 7-2, here tonight at Kenyon Arena. Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) led the way for the U.S. with two goals.

Just 35 seconds into the first frame, Palmieri staked the U.S. to a 1-0 lead. The goal came after Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) won a faceoff directly to Palmieri who snapped a shot that beat netminder Max Kennedy low-glove side. Near the halfway point of the stanza, Mason Graddok knotted the score for Middlebury. Team USA regained its advantage after Cam Fowler (Farmington HIlls, Mich.) fired a one-time shot from the point into the lower right corner of the net at 11:34. Michael Kretschmer tied things up once again with a goal at the 17:10 mark.

After a scoreless second period, Lynch put Team USA ahead with a power-play marker at 2:56 of the third. Lynch's goal came after he one-touched a Chris McCarthy (Collegeville, Pa.) feed past new Middlebury goaltender John Yanchek. Palmieri then doubled the U.S. advantage, 4-2, with a shorthanded tally at 10:00 after he broke away with A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and one-timed a shot by Yanchek. Just 1:27 later, Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) added a power-play goal of his own. Chris Brown (Flower Mound, Texas) put Team USA ahead 6-2 with another power-play tally at 12:56.
