The “Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy” will be presented each season to the OHL team captain that best exemplifies the character and commitment that Renaud displayed during his career with the Spitfires.

The winner will be one of the 20 OHL member team captains and will be selected by a special media selection committee.

“The Ontario Hockey League is very proud to take this opportunity to honour the memory of a young man that meant a great deal to the league, the Spitfires and his community,” said OHL Commissioner David Branch. “Mickey set a very high standard for the commitment, character and community spirit that is necessary for a team captain and provides a great example for his peers.”

Renaud, who passed away last February, was named the Spitfires’ captain at the start of the 2007-08 season.

“We are very proud to help the OHL honour Mickey’s memory in this way,” said Spitfires’ President and Head Coach Bob Boughner. “Mickey was an important part of our team and this community and we are happy to see his legacy carried on with this fitting tribute.”

“Our family is very honoured and proud that Mickey will be remembered this way,” said Mark Renaud, Mickey’s father and a former Windsor Spitfires’ player. “The OHL and the Windsor Spitfires were a very important part of Mickey’s life and we’re thrilled that he will be remembered this way.”

The “Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy” will be presented for the first time at the OHL Awards Ceremony at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 3, 2009.
