EJHL Quarter-Finals

Bay State, Kings win first games, Bandits and Syracuse tie, as do Hitmen and Huskies

Foxboro, MA- The Bay State Breakers and South Shore Kings each won their opening contest in the EJHL Quarterfinal Playoff Series.

Bay State Breakers 2, Junior Bruins 0

Breakers goalie Erik Mihalik made 29 saves in the Breakers’ shutout over the Bruins. Sean Foley scored an unassisted shorthanded goal in the first period and Anthony Principato scored a power play goal from Josh Harris in the second.

South Shore Kings 2, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 1

Daniel Palmkvist made 38 saves to help lead the South Shore Kings over the regular season champion New Hamsphire Jr. Monarchs. Chris Wagner and Mike Lysyj scored for the Kings, and Mike Griffen and Sean Logue picked up assists. Adam Kaiser scored for the Monarchs from Jeff Hannan and Brice O’Connor with 12:06 remaining in the third. Brian Billett turned away 25 shots in the loss.

Bridgewater Bandits 5, Syracuse Stars 5

Syracuse led 2-1 after the first with goals from Joe Wilson and Chris Cannizarro. Chris Rooney scored a power play goal for Bridgewater from Tim King and John Heffernan. Bridgewater tied the game with 8:24 left in the second when Matt Gates scored from John Tague and Johnny van Siclen, but Josh LaRose, Matt Wilson, and Cannizarro scored for Syracuse in the last five minutes in the period. John Heffernan ignited a rally with 3:05 remaining in regulation and Brandon Nunn scored twice in the final two minutes to send the game to overtime. Neither team could put in the game winner.

Jersey Hitmen 3, New England Huskies 3

Nick Geraci scored two goals for the Hitmen, but the relentless Huskies, led by Daniel Teitelbaum’s 35 saves and Mike Cifelli’s two goals, held on for the 3-3 tie. Kyle Rajaniemi scored first for the Huskies, and Mike Richard, Colin Hoey, Brian Nehring, and Tm Schaller all had assists. Colin Trachsel scored the equalizer for the defending champion Hitmen with 44 seconds remaining. Jeremy Langlois, Kevin Czepiel, Brendan Jamison, and Garet Chumley all had assists, and John Morrow turned away 24 shots.
