Robertson Cup format

The North American Hockey League announced today the game format for the 2009 Robertson Cup Championship Tournament, which will be held April 28-May 3 at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, Iowa.

The divisional playoff winners from each of the league’s four divisions, along with the host North Iowa Outlaws, will play a four-game, five-day round robin from Tuesday, April 28-Saturday, May 2.

The two teams with the most points at the conclusion of the round robin will play for the Robertson Cup Championship on Sunday, May 3.

The round-robin games will start at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CST each day. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m.

The Robertson Cup champion also represents USA Hockey’s Tier II Junior A national champion.

The top four teams in each division at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the Robertson Cup Playoffs.

The team seeded first in each division will compete in a best-of-five divisional semifinals series with the fourth-seeded team in the same division. The team seeded second will compete against the third-seeded team.

The winners of each semifinals series will compete in a best-of-five divisional finals series, with the winners advancing to the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament.

The divisional semifinals will begin no earlier than Thursday, April 1, and conclude no later than Sunday, April 12.

The divisional finals will begin no earlier than Thursday, April 16, and conclude no later than Sunday, April 26.
