Draft Players of the week

Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW) / International Scouting Services (ISS) 2009 Draft Prospect Performers of the Week presented by the Pipeline Show & Hockey Now ending Sunday, April 19, 2009.

Each week, International Scouting Services (ISS), Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), Hockey Now, and The Pipeline Show recognize the Top Draft Eligible player from each of the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, & USHL leagues for the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the week. Players are nominated and the selected by graduates of the SMWW Hockey GM & Scouting with each of the winners receiving a gift acknowledging their selection.



ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE – OHL

Ontario Hockey League – Matt Duchene, Brampton Battalion

Matt Duchene takes this week’s award after scoring twice and adding a pair of assists in 3 games for the Battalion, who lead the Belleville Bulls in the OHL Eastern Conference Final 2 games to 1. Duchene, a Haliburton, ON native, has 9 goals and 18 points in 13 games in the 2009 playoffs. Duchene is a highly skilled offensive performer who is considered to be a lock first round pick in the upcoming draft.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE – WHL

Western Hockey League – Evander Kane, Vancouver Giants

Evander Kane is the WHL nominee this week after scoring a goal and adding an assist in Vancouver’s overtime victory against Kelowna on Sunday. Kane is continuing his strong regular season play in the playoffs with 5 goals and 13 points in 13 games thus far. Kane has made his case this season to be included amongst the premier prospects for the NHL draft and continued playoff success will only boost his credentials.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Mike Hoffman, Drummondville Voltigeurs

Mike Hoffman makes his first appearance as a playoff performer of the week after scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists in 2 games for the Voltigeurs. Drummondville currently leads Rimouski 2 games to none in the QMJHL semi-finals and Hoffman is currently fourth in league playoff scoring with 16 goals and 25 points in 10 games.

United States Hockey League – Shane Berschbach, Indiana Ice

Shane Berschbach is this week’s winner in the USHL after scoring once and adding 3 assists in a series victory for Indiana over Cedar Rapids. Berschbach, a native of Clawson, MI is currently among the top ten scorers during the USHL playoffs with 5 points in as many games. Berschbach is a small winger who relies on his talent and ability with the puck to be an impact player.
