2009 TELUS Top Prospects Presentation

Press Release

MONCTON, Friday, June 5, 2009 - The TELUS Top Prospects presentation was held earlier today at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton.

The League’s future stars were on hand to meet the media and talk about their level of excitement prior to tomorrow’s Entry Draft.

Afterwards, the Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, held a press conference to discuss current League undertakings.

The Commissioner kicked off the press conference by congratulating the 2009 Annual Session organizing committee and its chair, Sharon Thivierge, as well as the Moncton Wildcats organization for their outstanding work.

Then, the Commissioner announced the results of the League's anti-doping initiative. A total of forty-eight tests were conducted throughout the course of the 2008-09 season.

"I have the pleasure of announcing today that the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), which is the independent entity in charge of overseeing our anti-doping program, has confirmed that none of the 48 random tests submitted to our players over the course of the 2008-09 season have come back positive. Of note, the CCES tests our players for the same banned substances as those listed by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA)," said the Commissioner.

"These are very encouraging results for which we hope to build on with more random testing and by further educating our players on the dangers of using illicit and dangerous substances."

"We believe that by setting high standards for ourselves - the League, its owners, managers and coaches - the better we will be positioned to set the best possible example for our players to follow while helping them develop into quality individuals and strong leaders for which following generations can look up to and be proud of," he concluded.
