Andrews to Halifax

Press Release

The Mooseheads announced today that Brent Andrews has committed to play for the Halifax Mooseheads next season. The Hunter River, PEI native was the Mooseheads 1st pick, 15th overall at the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft held earlier this month in Moncton. The Mooseheads acquired the 15th overall pick from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for 19 yr old defenceman Gabriel O’Connor.

Andrews, 6'1, 183lbs, was ranked #11 overall by Central Scouting but slipped #15 due to his interest in pursuing his career in US College. He collected 12 goals and 20 assists in 30 games last season with the Cornwall Thunder of NB-PEI Major Midget Hockey League.

“We are excited to have Brent coming to camp” stated Cam Russell, Mooseheads Head Coach and General Manager. “Brent will be a big part of a talented group of young players we have assembled moving forward.”

“I was impressed with the educational opportunities provided by the Mooseheads and the QMJHL” stated Andrews. “The Mooseheads offered a great mix of both hockey and education, and I’m very excited to be coming to Halifax”.

The Mooseheads open training camp on August 19th at Cole Harbour Place.

I should have comments from Andrews later today or tomorrow.
