Knott to Minnesota State

The Sioux City Musketeers announced that General Manager and Head Coach Todd Knott has accepted a position as an assistant coach with the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks hockey team. The Mavericks are members of the prestigious Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Knott, served one season with the Musketeers and just completed his second tryout camp.

"I am leaving the organization a very talented team and am extremely happy with our recent tryout camp, said Knott. I can't say enough about how much I appreciated the opportunity to work with Jim (President, Jim Kronschnabel) and the entire Musketeers organization and family. It is first class all the way. I appreciate all they have done for me and my staff and wish them the very best in the future."

"I am happy for Todd and his family", said team President Jim Kronschnabel. "This league is all about development and moving people on whether it be players, coaches, or officials. Todd is a great find for Mankato and we wish him all the best".

The Musketeers will begin an immediate search for a new Head Coach and General Manager. "There are a great number of talented coaches out there that would love to be a part of the USHL and the Musketeers" said team President Jim Kronschnabel. "We will hire a first class coach and person very soon. Todd and his staff did a great job with the drafts and tryout camps. Our new coach will walk into a very good situation here in Sioux City."

A total of nine players who played in the USHL during the 2008-09 season are committed to play collegiately at Minnesota State University; Zach Lehrke (Cedar Rapids), Matt Leitner (Fargo), Cory Lievermann (Fargo), Kevin Murdock (Lincoln), Josh Berge (Tri-City), Danny Heath (Tri-City), Eli Zuck (Tri-City), Eriah Hayes (Waterloo), and Zach Palmquist (Waterloo).

In addition, 17 players who suited up for the Mavericks this past season are USHL alumni; Cameron Cooper (Tri-City), Andrew Sackrison (Tri-City), Baylor Dieter (Green Bay), Tyler Thompson (Cedar Rapids), Kurt Davis (Green Bay), Trevor Bruess (Lincoln), Joe Schiller (Green Bay), Brett Peterson (Indiana), Channing Boe (Green Bay), Mick Berge (Lincoln), Rylan Galiardi (Sioux City), Jason Wiley (Indiana), Jerad Stewart (Waterloo), Brian Kilburg (Tri-City), Blake Friesen (Sioux City), Mike Zacharias (Tri-City/Green Bay), and Dan Tormey (Cedar Rapids).
