Mitchell to Guelph

Press Release

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that forward Zach Mitchell has an signed Ontario Hockey League contract with the team.

Selected by the Storm with their third pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, Mitchell was taken in the 4th round, 71st overall. Last season Mitchell played for the Toronto Marlboros collecting 90 points, 42 goals and 48 assists, in 77 games. The dynamic winger racked up 9 points in 7 OHL Cup games to help his Toronto Marlboros capture the championship.

Mitchell was a Harvard University 2011 recruit that was ranked as a first round pick by most scouting services. The Caledon native would have been a new junior at the Westminster Prep School this fall, but with his signing with the Storm has now withdrawn his commitments to both schools.

Brooks described Mitchell as being "an offensively gifted passer and scorer, but also responsible in his own end."

Mitchell will be on hand at the Sleeman Centre to attend the Storm training camp beginning Wednesday August 26th.

Over the past month the Storm has signed five players, including their three top picks in the recent OHL Priority Selection. In addition to Mitchell, Carter Sandlak and Julian Ciocco, Brooks has inked Connor Tresham and Francis Menard who were drafted by the squad in 2007 and 2008 respectively. All five signees will be on hand for the team's training camp in late August at the Sleeman Centre.
