OHL releases the schedule

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the regular season schedule of games for the 2009-10 season.

The puck drops on the new season Thursday September 17, 2009, with four games including the defending OHL Champion Windsor Spitfires in action at home to division rivals the Plymouth Whalers at 7:05 pm, and the defending Eastern Conference Champion Brampton Battalion on the road against the Peterborough Petes at 7:00 pm.

The Battalion will have to wait until Sunday November 15, 2009, at 2:00 pm for a rematch of last year’s Championship Series against the Spitfires. Windsor defeated Brampton in five games to capture the J. Ross Robertson Cup before travelling to Rimouski, Quebec, where they won the franchise’s first Memorial Cup title.

Last week the league announced that the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic will be held February 2-3 in Kingston, ON, at the K-Rock Centre.

The 680 game regular season covers 179 nights ending Sunday March 14, 2010. The 2010 OHL Playoffs will start on Thursday March 18, 2010, when the league’s top 16 teams will battle for the opportunity to represent the OHL at the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Brandon, Manitoba, from May 14-23 against the host Wheat Kings along with the Champions from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.

The Ontario Hockey League continues the tradition of being primarily a weekend league in order to accommodate the student athlete with 88.8% (604) of games scheduled between Thursday and Sunday. Friday is the busiest night during the season with 205 games scheduled (followed by 167 on Saturday).
