67's sign Ceci

Press Release

The Ottawa 67’s today announced the signing of their top pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Draft, defenceman Cody Ceci. The 6’2”, 188 pound Orleans native will be on the ice when training camp opens in the last week of August, and the public’s first chance to see him in action will be September 4th when the 67’s open their home exhibition season with a game against their neighbors from across the Ottawa River, the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior League.

“It’s great to officially have Cody on the team,” said General Manager, Brian Kilrea. “We had him ranked higher going into the draft and were fortunate to get him when our pick (16th overall) came up.” Coach Chris Byrne added, “Cody is a highly skilled player with great hockey sense. I’m looking forward to seeing him on the ice in our colours.”

Ceci, who will turn 16 just before Christmas (Dec. 21), played with the Minor Midget AAA Peterborough Petes last season, tying for the team lead in scoring with 24 goals and 77 points in 64 games. His last local team was the Cumberland Barons.
