89 Memorial Cup Champs Inducted

Press Release

Swift Current, SK -- For the first time, the Swift Current Broncos inducted an entire team into their Hall of Fame.

The 1989 Broncos were a special team capturing the Memorial Cup in Saskatoon capping off a dream season. Nearly all of the members of the team returned to Swift Current with their families and friends. Along with all those in attendance, they celebrated their championship run 20 years ago. The team won 55 games that season and lost only 2 games on home ice. Local Swift Current product Tim Tisdale led the team in scoring and was the hero, scoring the Memorial Cup winning goal in overtime against the Saskatoon Blades. For many of the players who have gone on to pro careers and successful business ventures it was a great chance to share the memories.

The Broncos want to thank all the players and staff who attended the RBC Dominion Securities banquet and congratulate them on their honour, being inducted into the Broncos Hall of Fame.

Many Broncos alumni were also on hand to help celebrate the acheivement of the 1989 team. Tiger Williams, Jack Brawn, Ben Ondrus, Andy Schneider, Trent McCleary, Jeremy Rondeau, Todd Holt and the legendary Joe Sakic were all in attendance as new Montreal Canadiens forward and local product Travis Moen.
