BREAKING NEWS: Moore signs with Columbus

COLUMBUS, OHIO -
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman John Moore to a standard three-year entry level contract, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Moore, 18, was the Blue Jackets first pick, 21st overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft held June 26-27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. He scored 14 goals and added 25 assists for 39 points and 50 penalty minutes in 57 games with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League during the 2008-09 season. He was named the USHL Defenseman of the Year and ranked fourth among league defensemen in scoring.

"We are very pleased to have John under contract," said Howson. "He is an outstanding prospect and we look forward to seeing him bring his offensive ability and skill set to Columbus in the not too distant future."

The Winnetka, Illinois native won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2008 World Junior "A" Challenge and had 0-2-2 in five games. For his USHL career, he collected 18-36-54 and 76 penalty minutes in 113 games.
