Centennials names an assitant coach

Press Release

Merritt Centennials head coach and GM Joey Bouchard is pleased to announce the hiring of Richard Molenaar as assistant coach.

Molenaar, 25, began his junior hockey playing career in the PIJHL with North Delta, where he spent two seasons, including one as captain, before moving up to the Junior A ranks with Quesnel and Surrey of the BCHL and Winkler of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Molenaar received a scholarship to the Augustana University College Vikings in Camrose, Alberta as the team went undefeated until the Finals of the Viking Cup, losing to the University of Guelph in double overtime.

After two years at Augustana, he transferred and played three seasons with the University of Lakehead of the CIS, advancing to the Nationals in Molenaar's final year. Molenaar graduated with a BA in Political Science/Pre-Law.

"Richard has a great hockey background, he's got a great education background and we're looking forward to having him on board," Bouchard said. "I'm sure he'll add a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to this year's Centennials team."
