IceDogs sign two

Press Release

IceDogs General Manager Dave Brown announced today that IceDogs have signed 2009 Priority Selection picks John Chartrand and Andrew Fritsch.

Chartrand, a 6’0”, 170 lb goalie from the Barrie Colts Minor Midget Team was selected in the 4th round, 80th overall, by the IceDogs.

John is described as having good size and speed, and being a player that plays the game with energy.

“He is someone we zeroed in on at the draft and I looked forward to working with him” said IceDogs Goalie Coach Ben Vanderklok.

In Fritsch, the IceDogs 3rd round pick, 57th overall, the IceDogs have themselves “a skilled winger who brings offense to the table”, according to head scout Scott Halpenny. He adds that “Andrew is a good skater and will work well in the small confines of the Gatorade Garden City Complex”.

The 5'11, 165 lb left-winger spent the 2008-09 season with the Brantford 99ers, playing in 59 games, scoring 33 goals and adding 38 assists for 71 points, along with 12 penalty minutes.

When asked about the latest signings, General Manager Dave Brown said “We are very happy to have been able to sign another two of our selections. Both Chartrand and Fritsch are skilled players who will help this team. They have both had an excellent couple of days at training camp and we are glad to have them as a part of our organization.”
