Bulls dedicate season to the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton

Press Release

The Belleville Bulls OHL franchise announced today that it will dedicate the entire 2009-2010 season to the men and women of the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton and their families. The team announced several activities planned to support and encourage all those involved at the base, both civilian and military. These activities are being coordinated with the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), a Canadian Forces agency that offers specialized programs and services to military personnel and their families in the area of health, education and social well being.

“We are dedicating our season to the heroes that form the 8 Wing family. These people are our friends and neighbours. They live among us and are an integral part of our community” said Gord Simmonds, majority owner and operating partner of the Belleville Bulls. “Our goal for this dedication is to find positive ways to honour and encourage these men and women and their families. We have activities planned throughout the season and look forward to recognizing the 8 Wing team’s unique contribution in support of Canada’s efforts around the world.”

“We very much appreciate the decision of the Belleville Bulls Hockey Club to dedicate this season to the men and women of the Wing” commented Wing Commander, Colonel Williams. “We are honoured to have a community institution such as the Bulls recognize the Wing in this fashion, given in particular, the importance we attach to developing and maintaining strong ties with our local communities. Our relationship with the Bulls is no doubt strengthened by the values we share, such as hard work, dedication, and teamwork. The Bulls are your hockey team; we are your defence team, and we both represent our communities with pride, at home and away.”

The Belleville Bulls announced several details surrounding the year’s activities. 8 Wing personnel will be helping kick off the season at the Bulls’ opener on Saturday, September 19th at 7:05 pm when the Bulls host the Peterborough Petes. The Bulls will wear 8 Wing patches on their uniforms through the entire year. Local Tim Horton’s franchisees and the Bulls’ flagship radio partners at Quinte Broadcasting will be co-sponsoring the season dedication. Tim Horton’s franchises in the community will be selling Smile cookies from September 21st to 27th and donating those proceeds to the local MFRC. Wednesday, November 11th will be special Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Bulls’ game vs. the Oshawa Generals.
