Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Luke Pither of the Barrie Colts is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 20 scoring seven goals in two games.

Pither led the Colts to two wins to open the 2009-10 OHL regular season this week. His seven goals included two game-winners in a week that began with a four goal performance over the Owen Sound Attack Thursday night as first star of the game. He followed that up with a hat-trick to edge the Niagara IceDogs 5-4 in overtime on Saturday as second star of the game. Six of his seven goals were scored on the power play.

Pither, a 20-year-old forward from Burketon, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season but first with the Colts. Last season he scored 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 points in 64 games with the Belleville Bulls and the Guelph Storm. Prior to the start of the season, Pither was invited to attend the New York Rangers training camp as a free agent.

Considered for the award this week from the WHL was Tyler Fiddler from the Calgary Hitmen who scored four goals and one assist for five points in two games. Three of his goals were scored in under nine minutes Friday as first star of a 6-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels.
