Otters name new broadcaster

Press Release

The Erie Otters are proud to name Paul Roper as the Media Relations Manager and Broadcaster. Roper spent the 2008-09 season with the Trenton Devils of the ECHL as their Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. He was named to broadcast the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, Pa. Previous to Roper’s time with Trenton, he was employed by the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball as a Media Relations Assistant and Broadcaster.

Roper graduated from Seton Hall University in May, 2008, with a BA in Broadcasting and Visual Media. While at Seton Hall, Roper broadcasted NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball games. “I’m very excited to join the Otters as a member of their front office staff. With renovations to Tullio Arena taking place in the near-future coupled with a competitive team, this is a great time to be a member of their organization. It’s my hope that I can provide the great fans of Erie with exhilarating play-by-play of Otters hockey for many years to come.”

E. Shawn Waskiewicz, Assistant General Manager/Administration, received close to 200 resumes with the help of STAA (Sportscasters Talent Agency of America). After having 20 phone interviews, he narrowed the field down to three final candidates, where he ultimately selected Roper for the position. “Paul is a bright, young guy, who’s very enthusiastic about this opportunity. He did excellent during the interview process and we’re happy to have him on our team.”
