Hockey Alberta Board Member Passes

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hockey Alberta Zone 8 Director, Richard (Dick) White at the age of 74.

Dick, as he was known as in the hockey world, had been involved with Hockey Alberta since 2008 as the Zone Director for Edmonton. Prior to Hockey Alberta, White dedicated countless hours to hockey organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, Edmonton Minor Hockey Association, the Alberta Midget Hockey League and the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He leaves behind a legacy of sportsmanship, service and volunteerism. As a player, coach, sport builder and Hall of Fame inductee, he received many accolades throughout his life for his dedication to hockey and sport.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 51 years, Shirlee; his son Rick (Dana), daughter Carleen Greaves (Fred) and his precious granddaughters Lauren and Vanessa. He is survived by his sisters Charline, Lois, Jeanne, brother-in-law Terry and numerous nieces and nephews. His love for his family will always be cherished.

A Celebration of Dick’s life was held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. N. Gibney, Dr. P. Brindley and the amazing staff at the U of A Hospital ICU. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Garner King Education Trust Fund in care of the University Hospital Foundation.
