AJHL Proud to Partner with Olympic Torch Relay

Press Release

Congratulations to Alberta Junior Hockey League Secretary / Treasurer Dan Wourms and AJHL Coach Boris Rybalka who have been selected as Olympic Torchbearers for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

Camrose Kodiaks Head Coach Boris Rybalka will carry the torch in the City of Camrose on Friday, January 15th. Boris is very pleased and honoured to have been selected to participate in such a prestigious event as he contributes to the 45,000 kilometre journey of the Olympic Flame.

Dan Wourms will “carry the torch” in his hometown and AJHL community of Olds, Alberta as one of the 12,000 Olympic Torchbearers in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay on Saturday, January 16th. “Being selected was a surprise and an honour, because part of the selection process was based on contributions to the community,” said Wourms. “The opportunity to be a part of the world wide Olympics, even in just a little piece of it as a Torch Bearer, is a once in a lifetime experience for me. It will be something that I will always remember and having the actual torch that I carry will be part of my legacy to my family.”

The Alberta Junior Hockey League has invited four RBC Olympic Torchbearers to drop the puck at their local AJHL games, building the Olympic Spirit in the community in advance of the Olympic Torch Relay. RBC Olympic Torchbearers will drop the puck at the following games:

Lloydminster Bobcats @ Drumheller Dragons on Wednesday, January 6, 2010
Drayton Valley Thunder @ Camrose Kodiaks on Friday, January 8, 2010
Ft. McMurray Oil Barons @ Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday, January 8, 2010
