RISING

Nino Niederreiter, RW – Portland Winterhawks

Has emerged from WJC as a potential top 10 selection. Regarded as perhaps the best offensive prospect the Swiss have ever produced. He has great size and strength to go with very quick hands and strong shot. His competitiveness and his strong leadership are other traits that we love. He can score important goals to lift his team.

Brad Ross, LW – Portland Winterhawks

Ross is coming off of his best month in the WHL. In December he was named WHL Player of the Month and also led the league in the month with the most points. A former first round bantam draft pick can be a pest and is known as one of the most hated players in the league. At his size can he play that style at the next level, is a big question for Ross.

Charlie Coyle, RW – South Shore Kings (EJHL)

Coyle is an explosive and gifted skater with a smooth and fluid stride who has garnered more attention and developed into a more all-around player since the start of the season. He often is shadowed, yet with his acceleration, speed and ability to understand the game, he usually eludes opposing players, resulting in multiple-point games.

Joe Basaraba, RW - Shattuck-St. Mary's

His offensive skills can be very explosive. His vision and playmaking skills are at a high level. His puck skills make him a very dangerous team player, when he's left uncovered in the offensive zone. His size helps him protect the puck well in all areas of the ice. Scouts like his big-player type game and his aggressiveness.

Geoffrey Schemitsch, RD – Owen Sound

Schemitsch is one of the most improved players in the OHL since the start of the season. This young man has become much more confident and as a result, is near the top of OHL rookie scoring race. Very smart with the puck and has a real knack for finding the open man in the offensive zone and getting the puck to him.

Marek Hrivik, LW – Moncton Wildcats

Passed over at last year’s NHL Draft, Hrivik arrived in North America to play for Moncton in the QMJHL and is starting to turn heads. A skilled winger with a very good skill set; he is right near the top of QMJHL rookie scoring race.

Brendan Gallagher, LW – Vancouver Giants

Gallagher is a very intelligent offensive playmaker who has a tremendous ability to find open space away from the puck. Gallagher has few weaknesses in his game and makes up for his size with an above-average understanding of the physics of the game. He keeps his feet moving and is deceptively difficult to contain because of his active motion all over the ice.

Mark Stone, RW – Brandon Wheat Kings

Brandon's fifth-round pick, 92nd overall in 2007 Bantam Draft. Good skating stance. Good size. Not going to stickhandle his way through defenders but plays a good strong hard style around net and boards. Reads play well and gets back to support in neutral zone.

Ryan Martindale, C - Ottawa 67's

Has a good combination of size, strength and skill. Martindale can score goals. He has a quick release and an accurate shot, which makes him lethal in the slot area. He has some creativity but he isn't very elusive.

Jason Clark – LW - Shattuck-St. Mary's

Clark is a solid physical player with good offensive skills. His vision and playmaking skills are used in all situations. He can move quickly through zones and gets involved with the offensive rush by skating into open spots. During the MN Elite I season, he impressed ISS scouts with his tenacity and grit. Good team player and leader for his team.

Zane Gothberg - Goal - Thief River Falls HS

Best Minnesota goalie. He is a very athletic goalie who has a verbal commitment to North Dakota. His angle play is very good and his quickness between the pipes is the best we've seen since Mike Lee. He may even be a bit more athletic which helps him get back to his feet quicker for rebounds.
FALLING

Morgan Ellis, RD – Cape Breton

After his strong start in the defensive zone for Cape Breton, it was thought that Ellis would be a high draft pick. Unfortunately his play in the offensive zone did not improve and the physical attributes looked for in a defensive defenseman did not materialize. He is a solid player, but needs to start playing more of a bigger game for people to be convinced that he'll be a draft type player.

Mathieu Brisson, RD - Omaha Lancers

An ISS favorite over the past couple years, Brisson is having trouble adjusting to the speed and size in the USHL after spending last season in the QMAAA. Has verbal agreement with Cornell University 2010-11.

Kevin Clare, LD – USA Under 18

ISS scouts expected much more from this talented rearguard who is now in his second season with USA program. Clare’s offensive production has slowed down and now recent allegations of sexual harassment at Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School have led to his suspension along with three teammates from both the school and the team. All have been serving school suspensions since the middle of last week.
