The Final Border Battle

Press Release

The Soo Thunderbirds will finish their home season, Wednesday, February 24th when they face the cross-river Soo Eagles at the Rhodes Centre for a 7 o’clock game time. The series between the TBirds and the Eagles now stands at 6-5 in favor of the TBirds.

The “Border Battle” now has an added incentive with the newly inaugurated Rollie King Memorial Cup. The cup is in memory of Rollie King, who played through the Sault Michigan ranks before joining the old Soo Greyhounds of the NOHL ranks. Rollie was one of the finest players ever to play in Sault, Michigan. Sadly he succumbed to Hodgkins disease at the early age of 28.

The Cup will be awarded to the captain of the winning team at the conclusion of the game.

The Soo Thunderbirds are holding a “Fan Appreciation Night” for the game. Fans will be admitted for $10 and that includes a party and free pizza upstairs at Brodys following the game. It will be a great way to end the home season and meet the Tbirds. Season ticket holders or fans upstairs at Brodys will be admitted to the party for $5.

The TBirds will also be unveiling their new jerseys that evening, as well as selling off their old sweaters for $50 a sweater.

The Thunderbirds are currently 7 points ahead in the NOJHL western division with only 4 games remaining before the start of the playoffs. The TBirds are working hard in preparation for the playoffs and then the Dudley Hewitt Cup, which they will be hosting April 20-24, 2010 at the Essar Centre.
