MasterCard Memorial Cup Unveils Media Partners

Press Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Sun and 880 CKLQ/94.7 STAR-FM have been confirmed as Media Partners for the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

As media partners, the Brandon Sun and CKLQ/STAR-FM have made significant sponsorship contributions to the MasterCard Memorial Cup including providing extensive advertising and promotional avenues to the host committee.

The Brandon Sun has been providing western Manitoba with extensive coverage of the Wheat Kings since the team's inception. We have one sports reporter devoting virtually all of his time to providing insight and commentary through his game day previews and post game reports. Brandon Sun employs three outstanding photographers who continue to provide some of the most dramatic images in Wheat King History.

"Brandon Sun is proud to be the print media sponsor of the MasterCard Memorial Cup. We have a long history of providing outstanding professional coverage of Brandon Wheat King games, including their four previous trips to the Memorial Cup," stated Sun publisher Ewan Pow, "As the newspaper of record for the city of Brandon and western Manitoba, we are excited to be able to provide extensive coverage of their fifth run at the coveted Cup."

Westman hockey fans can expect print coverage of this year's MasterCard Memorial Cup to meet or exceed that of any previous cup. Brandon Sun's management and editorial staff have some terrific features planned for area hockey enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, 880 CKLQ has been the radio voice of the Brandon Wheat Kings since 1992 while its sister station, 94.7 STAR-FM, has been a strong supporter of the club since hitting the air in 2000.

"I think the stations will have a tremendous role to play with the MasterCard Memorial Cup. CKLQ and STAR-FM will have broad programming on the air for our listeners to enjoy all of the events that are taking place," says CKLQ/STAR-FM General Manager Cam Clark, "This is such a huge community event and both stations will have a significant role in being able to convey the excitement and energy that's going to be happening during the event."

CKLQ will provide play-by-play broadcasts of all nine games during the MasterCard Memorial Cup. The station will also air an additional daily 30-minute program and other features while STAR-FM will not only have features on the event but will also broadcast 'live' from the MasterCard Memorial Cup Village.
