Richard Martel becomes all-time wins leader

BOUCHERVILLE, Sunday, February 28, 2010 – Richard Martel today became the most successful coach in QMJHL history, recording his 570th career victory after a 3-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

The Saguenéens bench boss tied former record holder Guy Chouinard on February 20 after Chicoutimi defeated the Val-d'Or Foreurs 2-0 at the air Creebec Centre.

Martel accomplished the feat in the midst of his sixteenth (full) season in the QMJHL.

The wins total has come from successful stints with the St-Hyacinthe Laser, the Val-d’Or Foreurs, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

Of note, Richard Martel has won two Ron-Lapointe trophies so far in his illustrious career. He was named Coach of the Year following the 1993-94 and 2004-05 seasons.
