Spitfires’ Adam Henrique Named Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Adam Henrique of the Windsor Spitfires is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week following the Rogers OHL Championship Series. Henrique was named winner of the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as Playoff MVP as voted on by the media covering the series.

Henrique scored a goal in the decisive 6-2 win over the Barrie Colts last Tuesday night to help the Spitfires capture their second straight Robertson Cup. He finished the playoffs sixth in scoring with 25 points in 19 games but finished tied for first with 20 goals. He led the club with five goals in four games of the Rogers Championship Series and nine goals against the Kitchener Rangers in the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series adding an assist for 10 points in seven games. The OHL introduced the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award in 1999 in tribute to ‘The Great One’ shortly after he announced his retirement from the NHL in 1999.

Henrique, a 20-year-old from Burford, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Spitfires. A third round selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Henrique and the Spitfires open the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Friday night against the host Brandon Wheat Kings beginning at 8:00 pm eastern on Rogers Sportsnet.

Last year’s Wayne Gretzky 99 Award winner Taylor Hall along with teammates Ryan Ellis and Cam Fowler were each considered for the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week award. All three recorded three points in the Game 4 win over the Colts. Philipp Grubauer made 33 saves as the game’s third star earning his fourth win of the series.
