Calgary Royals Become Calgary Mustangs

Press Release

The Calgary Royals, a mainstay franchise of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for almost twenty years, announced today that effective immediately the club has changed its name to the Calgary Mustangs. At a news conference and reception, the team also unveiled a new logo and announced its partnership with Maclin Ford.

“This is a new start for our hockey club,” says Ken Morris, Mustangs President. “We are committed to setting and reaching higher goals for our club; on the ice, at the gate and in the community. We want Calgary’s elite hockey players to know that the Mustangs provide them one of the best opportunities to realize their hockey dreams at home and that our commitment to providing both hockey and academic opportunities for local kids remains as strong as ever.”

The club’s official name is the Calgary Mustangs, but at its home rink and throughout Calgary the team will be known as the Maclin Ford Mustangs. Maclin Ford has just signed a three year sponsorship agreement with the club.

“We’re excited,” says Kamsen Iyer, Maclin Ford General Manager. “We’re bringing together Calgary’s most established Ford dealership with one of Calgary’s historic junior hockey franchises. Working closely with the club, we have plans for more game-day special events and outreach to the local community. Our aim is to make the Maclin Ford Mustangs the hottest hockey ticket in town.”

At every home game, one lucky fan will get the chance to unlock a safe and find the key to their very own 2011 Ford Mustang convertible valued at $40,000. Every contestant will also receive a free oil change and 50 Air Miles® Reward Miles, courtesy of Maclin Ford, Calgary’s exclusive Air Miles Reward Program Ford partner. Maclin Ford will also host a Drive One 4 UR Team promotion donating $20 to the club for everyone who test drives a new Ford vehicle.

The Mustangs training camp begins on Friday August 20, when the club will hold a special ceremony to unveil its new team jersey. The AJHL regular seasons begins on Friday September 10, 2010.
