Garrett Hooey Commits to Sarnia Sting

Press Release

Sarnia, ON – Sarnia Sting Head Coach and General Manager Dave MacQueen announced today that the hockey club has signed Forward Garret Hooey to an OHL Contract and Education Package.

A 2nd round selection in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection Hooey, the Captain of the OMHA's Clarington Toros that competed in the 2010 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament, scored 41 goals to go along with 54 assists for 95 points last season.

MacQueen is pleased with Hooey’s decision to join the organization.

“Garrett is a player we were thrilled was still available for our pick in the second round. Garrett is the type of player that you win with, high character, passion and will do what it takes to win.”

Ontario Hockey League Central Scouting gives the following report on Hooey:

“Hooey is a smart, two-way forward that plays a prominent role in his teams success. While displaying the ability to produce offensively, he plays an overall responsible game.”

MacQueen is especially excited to get Hooey signed considering the options he had available to him.

“Not only is Garrett a tremendous hockey player but he is also a very good student. Garrett and his family were doing their due diligence in exploring every option he had available to him. At the end of the day they decided that with the OHL Scholarship package this was the ideal situation for him both on the ice and in the classroom. We are thrilled to welcome Garrett and his family into our organization.”
