Junior A and B Hockey has Arrived in Northeastern Pennsylvania

Press Release

PITTSTON, PA – For the first time in history, Junior hockey will be played in Northeastern PA. The Northeast Youth Hockey Association along with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights announced this expansion of hockey with the acquisition of the Binghamton Jr. Senators franchise. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights will skate a Junior A team in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and a Junior B team in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL) starting in the 2010-2011 season.

Both teams will play a highly competitive Junior Hockey schedule in leagues that have posted results for aspiring young athletes. The AJHL and MET are highly recognized leagues for placing many of their players into collegiate hockey programs at both the Division I and III level.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to grow the sport of hockey in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said General Manager, Paul Maciejewski., “After working for the AJ and MET for the past four years, it is nice to be able to be a contributing factor in the growth of both leagues.”

The Knights are proud to announce the recent hiring of Head Coach, Anthony DiPalma. Anthony played four years of Division I College Hockey at Quinnipiac University and then continued on to play six years of professional hockey. He then started his coaching career as an assistant at Quinnipiac and then coached as an Associate coach for the Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack Junior A and B teams.

“Anthony’s excitement and experience in and around the game is a great addition to our organization,” stated Maciejewski. “We feel that he is a great fit and will be a remarkable factor in the building of our junior program.

The Knights will play at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston, PA. The team will train at the State of the Art, Revolution Ice Center in Dunmore, PA. The training center is fully equipped with a gymnasium, a half sheet of ice and a half sheet of synthetic ice. The facility will be open to the junior team throughout the season.
