Silvertips Sign Prospect Cody Fowlie

Press Release

Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Tuesday that Cody Fowlie of Airdrie, Alberta has been signed to a WHL Educational Contract.

The forward spent last season with the UFA Bisons in the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League, where he recorded 45 points on 16 goals and 29 assists along with 44 penalty minutes in 35 games. The 6’0, 175 pound forward also appeared in seven games at the Mac’s Midget Championship, posting six points on three goals and three assists and leading the Bisons to the tournament’s championship game.

Fowlie, born in November, 1992, was named as the AMHL’s South Division First-Team All-Star at right wing, and scored a goal at the AMHL All-Star Game.

“We’re very pleased that Cody has decided to play with the Everett Silvertips, and we feel that he’ll be a contributor to our hockey club this season. He had options, but decided to play in Everett because of our coaching staff and the guaranteed educational package,” Soetaert said.

The WHL Scholarship not only encourages its graduates to pursue a post-secondary education, it also affords graduates the opportunity to continue playing hockey at an elite level in the Canadian University or College systems. Each year over 300 WHL graduates receive a WHL Scholarship. For every season a player plays in the WHL, they receive a full year guaranteed Scholarship.

The Silvertips begin their eighth season in the Western Hockey League in September, 2010.
