STORM ACQUIRe DEFENSEMAN KOLOMATIS FROM STEEL

Press Release

KEARNEY, Neb. – Head Coach and General Manger Drew Schoneck announced Thursday morning that the Tri-City Storm have added NHL prospect defenseman Dan Kolomatis from the Chicago Steel, as D Kevin Lind will be leaving the USHL to attend the Univ. of Notre Dame this Fall.

“We are thrilled to be able to acquire Kolomatis and know he will fit in great with the Storm,” Schoneck said about the 19-year old from Basking Ridge, NJ. “He is a good all-around defenseman that adds veteran presence to our backend.”

The addition of Kolomatis was part of a trade clause, if the Storm lost Lind to a higher level, they would acquire the rights to Kolomatis. The original trade agreement had the Storm receiving Lind, D Zack Rall, F T.J. Sarcona, and F Cory Czarnik from Chicago in exchange for the number one overall draft pick in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

“We are happy to see Kevin get the opportunity to go to Notre Dame early, as this is what our league is all about,” Schoneck added about Lind, who attended the Storm’s June main camp in Las Vegas. “We wish nothing but the best for Kevin in his future as a Fighting Irish and his career following college.”

Like Lind, Kolomatis is also an NHL prospect and attended the New Jersey Devils Rookie Camp this summer as an undrafted prospect. Last season for the Steel, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defenseman had eight goals, nine assists and 75 penalty minutes in 55 games.

The Storm are part of the United States Hockey League, which has 16 teams across nine states in the Midwest. Get your season tickets now for the 2010-11 season by calling the Storm office at 308-338-8809.
