Vancouver Giants name John Becanic Assistant Coach

Press Release

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner is pleased to name John Becanic as an assistant coach. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job. This season will mark Becanic’s 8th year in the WHL. Last year he was an assistant coach with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Prior to that he spent 6 seasons with the Everett Silvertips; two years as the head coach, compiling a record of 69-66-7-5, and four as the associate head coach.

“We felt John’s experience as both a head coach and assistant would make him a perfect complement to Don Hay,” said General Manager Scott Bonner. “He’s worked with high end coaches and been a part of successful franchises in the past and those experiences should help us develop a stronger club.”

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work with the most successful franchise in the WHL over the last 5 years,” said Becanic. “Having the chance to join Don Hay and his staff was very appealing.”

The Giants 10th Anniversary Season officially kicks off Friday August 27th when training camp opens at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
